USS Sentry MCM-3

The USS Sentry (MCM-3) holds an important place in defending American interests and protecting freedom across the globe. As an Avenger class mine countermeasures ship for the US Navy, she is perfectly equipped to save our men from hidden dangers lurking beneath the surface. The USS Sentry is the second US Navy vessel to bear that name.

Commissioned on 2 September 1989, the USS Sentry has a displacement of approximately 1,367 long tons and stretches some 224 feet in length. Armed with two fifty caliber machine guns and grenade launchers, along with the most advanced magnetic detection system in the world, she is the best weapon the Navy has against the persistent threat of sea mines.

Minted in the USA from solid bronze and finished with an antique patina, this coin pays tribute to the USS Sentry and salutes the exceptional service of her crew. The obverse contains a scene of the vessel cutting across the ocean on its way to fulfill its mission, with its nickname “SENTINAL OF THE SEA” on the lower edge. The reverse displays the United States Navy logo.
